Quick Start - Syncthing First Steps

In order to start syncing you will need to install Syncthing on your computer.

your device#

add folder –#

  1. Download Syncthing from the official Syncthing website.
  2. Install Syncthing on your computer. Follow the official guide at syncthing-local-1.png
  3. Setup username / password (recommended) or click “ok”.
  4. Add a new folder add-new-folder add-folder-general.png In this example we share the existing folder ~/Documents. Depending on your OS the name is case sensitive.

copy device id –#

  1. Click on the “Actions” => “Show ID” actions-show-id.png
  2. Copy the device ID copy-device-id.png

add device –#

  1. Go to your syncdin.com instance (ie. https://[instance-id].syncding.com)
  2. Click on “Remote Devices” => “Add Remote Device” add-device-general.png Optional: assign a custom device name to better describe the device

share folder –#

  1. Select the folder you want to share and click on “Edit” => “Sharing” edit-folder-sharing.png Attention: Syncding.com recommends to use the Encryption. But be careful. Read up on the documentation on how to use encryption. When used it affects the use of snapshots and the filebrowser.

ackknowledge the new folder –#

  1. Click on “Add” ack-new-folder.png
  2. Click on “Save” new-folder-general.png

Auto accept –#

remote-device-auto-accept You can accept the remote device automatically by clicking on the “Auto accept” button.

For security reasons we don’t recommend to use the Introducer feature.
